Water Cycle

I had a great time talking to you and your children about all the experiments you did last month. Everyone had a great time and remembered to use safety with each experiment. Great Job!!
This month we are learning about the water cycle. The first site I want to share with your really explained what the water cycle was and how it worked. On this site your could watch the water cycle and then you had to label it. How did you do? I know your children did great. The next site tells the story of the water cycle. Do you know what happens after evaporation?
The last site shows you how to build your own water cycle with everyday items. This is a great hands on minds on activity to do with your child. If your child would like to bring his water cycle activity to class to show that would be great! See you next month.

Weather

I would like to tell the parents who took their children to the Botanical Gardens and the Amarillo Zoo thank you. My students reported back to me about how much fun they had with their families while visiting these wonderful educational places. Giving your children a positive and exciting way of looking at science really helps them learn and enjoy this very important part of learning. As you have probably seen (or heard from your child) our classroom has turned into a weather center this month. I have introduce your child to Steve Spangle science guy this month. We have done educational and exciting experiments in class this month using a lot of his ideas. I want to share with you a few experiments you can do at home, at little cost, that will reinforce what we have learned about weather. Do you know how clouds are formed? With this experiment you can make your own. With the same soda bottle you can make a hurricane and a tornado! Did you ever imagine you could make weather in your own kitchen? Plants and Insects

Hello, I hope you all have had a great month of science fun! This month we will be reinforcing the science concepts you child has been learning in class. I know I had a lot of fun teaching your child the parts of plants and insects. I know you will be amazed at how much your child has learned, so lets get started.
The first thing I want to share with you is a few places in Amarillo that you and your child can go to see plants and animals up close and personal. The first place I think you and your family would enjoy is the Amarillo Botanical Gardens. There is a small entry fee but the experiences will be priceless. The next place I know you could make a day of learning at is the Amarillo Zoo. Before you go print off a list of the animals so you can check them off as you see them. When you get back vote on your favorite animal using this site. Have fun and enjoy as you learn at these two amazing places right here in Amarillo.
We are now entering fall and winter season so if there is a day that the weather is bad you can still have fun learning and play games that identify and describe the parts of plants and insects.
On the plants site you can label the plant parts and then check to see if you are correct. Are you ready to be creative? On the insect site you can make you own insect and the write about it. How fun will it be to make your own insect, name it, describe it's diet and write your own facts about it?

Patterns and predictions

This month in class we have been learning about patterns in science. Your child should be able to observe and identify patterns including seasons, growth, day and night. They should also be able to make a prediction on what they think will happen next. I have included some Internet sites that you and your child can explore together. All of these sites will help your child learn about patterns in seasons, growth, day and night.
The first pattern in science your child has been learning is seasons. On this site you can put puzzles together, printout coloring pages, find easy crafts and play games that teach about spring, summer, fall and winter. Know matter what season it is you can learn and have fun.

Next we looked at the patterns in growth. On this site you and your child can learn the parts of a flower, life cycle of a flowering plant, life cycle of a frog and a human being. You can identify patterns in growth and predict which one goes next. Do you know all the parts of a flower?

Last we observed and identified patterns in day and night. With this site you will reinforce your child's learning of what makes night and day. You will also see the different phases of the moon. Do you know what a waxing gibbous is? Your child does!!
